Hi, my name is Ibrahima Diagne! But you can call me Ibou. I am from Senegal. I live in Dakar. I am 47 years old. A good part of my family is in Senegal. I am married and have two children, and I've been teaching for 19 years. Teaching has always been my passion! No doubt because it allows a lot of discussion and learning from others. I love reading, cooking, hiking, sports, movies, travel.
Before going any further, let's do some history. The arrival of Europeans in West Africa began with Senegal. Its coasts were the first to be encountered on their sea route. Its strategic position on the Atlantic Ocean makes it the extreme tip of West Africa. It was also the last stopover for the slave ships which had "filled up with slaves" in other countries (Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast) before reaching Europe, America or West Indies.
Senegal was also the country through which colonization spread to the rest of this part of Africa. Before independence, there were even four so-called full-service communes in Senegal (Gorée, Saint-Louis, Rufisque and Dakar).
There are a lot of beautiful places to visit in Dakar as well as in the interior of the country. One can quote among others the African Renaissance Monument and Gorée Island.
The African Renaissance Monument is a 52-meter bronze and copper monument located in Ouakam, a district of Dakar, on one of the two conical volcanic hills that overlook the Senegalese capital, Les Mamelles.
Gorée Island, or simply Gorée, is both an island in the North Atlantic Ocean located in the bay of Dakar and one of the 19 districts of the capital.
Senegalese gastronomy is one of the most famous in the region with its legendary Tiebou Dieune, a dish made of rice and fish with lots of vegetables.
